FLIGHT CLUB | SAR – WHEN DRONES SAVE LIVES | AUG 27

$0.00

NEXT MEETUP Thursday, August 27
6.00p to 8.00p

Join us for a special edition of Flight Club — WHEN DRONES SAVE LIVES — featuring guest speaker Micah Nehring of Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue (SCVSAR).

On Thursday, August 27 from 6:00p to 8:00p, Micah will share, from his firsthand experience, how UAS technology is transforming search and rescue. He’s bringing one of SCVSAR’s actual SAR trucks and will demo their equipment live, showing how they deploy drones as if responding to a real mission.

It’s a rare, up-close look at SAR drone ops straight from the field.

Micah has been with SCVSAR for over 12 years, where he’s a field-qualified Wilderness First Responder, a JHPTS Certified Tracker on the Man Tracking Team, and an FAA-certificated Remote Pilot. SCVSAR is an all-volunteer nonprofit running over 120 life-saving missions a year across Snohomish County’s wilderness and urban terrain. We’ll give Micah as much time as he wants to walk us through the demo, and then open the floor for as much Q&A as you want to dig into.

Time permitting after Micah’s presentation, we’ll roll into our usual SHOW & TELL. So, if you’ve got a drone you’re itching to show off, or you’re just curious what everyone else is flying, be prepared to bring it or just hang out and explore what everyone else is flying. And, if there’s time after all that, we’ll open up group workshop time. We’ve got all the tools you need and experienced builders on hand to help with your build.

Who Can Join?

This event is open to everyone! Whether you’re a seasoned pilot or new to the drone world, come to share, learn, and connect with fellow enthusiasts.

HOST // David Voetmann

David, a lifelong designer and maker, spent his childhood in Africa. This formative experience instilled a conviction that it’s better to create your own solutions than to wait around hoping someone else will solve your problems. To this end, he earned a BFA in Industrial Design at the University of Washington. This study deepened an enduring conviction that solving problems and making things is deeply coded into our humanity. Over the last few years he has explored the transformation of our economy as new technologies democratize opportunity. He now runs The Facility Makerspace where ordinary people with extraordinary ideas gain access to an 11,000sf sandbox for innovation with all the tools, training, and community you need to turn thoughts into things.

Flight Club is the bimonthly meetup of HELIOS LABS where we explore the future of UAV systems and learn together.
Moving forward, these Flight Club meetups will prioritize SHOW & TELL. So let us know you’re coming and be ready to share what you’re working on and geek out over everyone’s progress.
We anticipate initial projects to include group builds of flight ready multirotor drones as well as open gym build days where you can work on your own projects in a collaborative setting. As the weather gets better look forward to flight events where we’ll get out of the shop and into the sky … followed by fix-it clinics to put your drones back together.
Over time you will gain the knowledge to step up to increasingly demanding builds. We’ll support you with access to equipment and supplies as well as the growing knowledge you need to push forward.
Sign up today and let’s launch the future of drone innovation together!

This 2-hour meetup takes place adjacent to a working shop. If you would like to explore our workshop full of tools please be prepared for the following safety precautions.
