FLIGHT CLUB | Show & Tell + Workshop | JUN 13

$0.00

NEXT MEETUP Saturday, June 13
2.00p to 4.00p

$0/person

Ready to meet other drone enthusiasts to show off your drone and see what others are flying? FLIGHT CLUB is BACK!

Join us on Saturday, June 13 from 2:00p to 4:00p. This SHOW & TELL event is a chance to catch up with old friends and make some new ones. Share a custom build or show off what you’re flying these days. This is the place to share flying stories and check out what everyone else is doing while getting to know other drone enthusiasts. It’s the perfect opportunity to exchange tips and learn from fellow pilots. Or, maybe, you just want some help to figure out where to start and experience what’s out there.

At our last Thursday meetup we had a great time with the Helios Labs Applied Technology Team tinkering with our Flight Trainer. We also explored options for moving this platform forward by scaling up for an AI powered autonomous quad. We enjoyed a demonstration of Sten’s latest net deployment design making innovative use of tape measure blades. That’s innovation — and it led to imagining applications in Search & Rescue. Thanks, Gordon, for keeping it real with stories from your Search & Rescue experience. Last, but not least, first timer Nick shared his vision for a new drone fabrication company and led a spirited discussion about where drone manufacturing could be going next.

For this Saturday Meetup we’ll keep digging into our Flight Trainer with the Helios Labs Applied Technology Team. We’ll be discussing battery options and, hopefully, Johan will demonstrate his battery spot welder as we anticipate launching a battery safety and assembly class. After SHOW & TELL we’ll open up a collaborative Drone Workshop Session. We’ll have all the tools you need, some new equipment to show off, plus experienced drone builders ready to guide you through your build. Whether it’s a simple fix or a more complicated issue, we’re here to help troubleshoot!

Who Can Join?

This event is open to everyone! Whether you’re a seasoned pilot or new to the drone world, come to share, learn, and connect with fellow enthusiasts.

HOST _ David Voetmann

David, a lifelong designer and maker, spent his childhood in Africa. This formative experience instilled a conviction that it’s better to create your own solutions than to wait around hoping someone else will solve your problems. To this end, he earned a BFA in Industrial Design at the University of Washington. This study deepened an enduring conviction that solving problems and making things is deeply coded into our humanity. Over the last few years he has explored the transformation of our economy as new technologies democratize opportunity. He now runs The Facility Makerspace where ordinary people with extraordinary ideas gain access to an 11,000sf sandbox for innovation with all the tools, training, and community you need to turn thoughts into things.

Flight Club is back to meeting 2 times a month: every 2nd Saturday from 2.00p – 4.00p as well as the 4th Thursday of every month from 6.00p – 8.00p.

Moving forward, we will prioritize SHOW & TELL. So let us know you’re coming and share what you’re working on and geek out over everyone’s progress. We will also have some time to talk about where HELIOS is going and explore the schedule of upcoming events.

Please feel free to contact David ( david.voetmann@edmonds.edu ) if you have ideas for future Flight Club events.
