FLIGHT CLUB | Show & Tell + Battery Workshop | JUL 11

$0.00

NEXT MEETUP Saturday, July 11
2.00p to 4.00p

$0/person

Got a drone you’re itching to show off, or just curious what everyone else is flying? This is your invite to Flight Club.

Join us on Saturday, July 11 from 2:00p to 4:00p.

Bring whatever you’re working on — a custom build, your daily flyer, or just questions about where to start. SHOW & TELL is where the Helios crew swaps stories, compares notes, and geeks out over what everyone’s been building. Trade tips, get feedback, or just soak in what’s possible. New to flying? No pressure — come watch, ask questions, and figure out your next move.

During our last meetup we made real headway on the Flight Trainer, dialing in the new GPS chip — and the difference in stability and position-holding was immediately obvious in flight. That led to a good debate over ArduPilot vs. INAV, and we’ve officially decided to move forward with INAV for flight control. On the Flight School front, we hashed out the program’s scope: stackable skill modules that let pilots build a custom skills track suited to their own interests — Search & Rescue was one example. And in the “just for fun” category, one of our youngest visitors took Sten’s tiny woop drone for a spin, crashing and laughing through a stack of takeoffs.

After this coming Saturday’s SHOW & TELL we’ll open up a collaborative Battery Workshop Session. We’ll explore battery safety, maintenance, design, and pack building. Johan will demonstrate how to use the spot welder to assemble a battery pack, and we’ll follow it with a hands-on workshop where you can watch — and try — the whole process yourself. We’ll have all the tools you need, some new equipment to show off, plus experienced drone builders ready to guide you through your build. Whether it’s a simple fix or a more complicated issue, we’re here to help troubleshoot!

Who Can Join?

This event is open to everyone! Whether you’re a seasoned pilot or new to the drone world, come to share, learn, and connect with fellow enthusiasts.

HOST _ David Voetmann

David, a lifelong designer and maker, spent his childhood in Africa. This formative experience instilled a conviction that it’s better to create your own solutions than to wait around hoping someone else will solve your problems. To this end, he earned a BFA in Industrial Design at the University of Washington. This study deepened an enduring conviction that solving problems and making things is deeply coded into our humanity. Over the last few years he has explored the transformation of our economy as new technologies democratize opportunity. He now runs The Facility Makerspace where ordinary people with extraordinary ideas gain access to an 11,000sf sandbox for innovation with all the tools, training, and community you need to turn thoughts into things.

Flight Club is back to meeting 2 times a month: every 2nd Saturday from 2.00p – 4.00p as well as the 4th Thursday of every month from 6.00p – 8.00p.

Moving forward, we will prioritize SHOW & TELL. So let us know you’re coming and share what you’re working on and geek out over everyone’s progress. We will also have some time to talk about where HELIOS is going and explore the schedule of upcoming events.

Please feel free to contact David ( david.voetmann@edmonds.edu ) if you have ideas for future Flight Club events.
